Boynton Commissioner Joe Casello files to run for State House seat

Boynton Beach City Commissioner Joe Casello, of District 4, recently filed his intent to run for Florida State House, District 90.

“I am running for State House District 90 because I am passionate about public service and want to continue to make a positive difference in my community,” he said in a statement. “In the State Legislature, I will focus on enhancing public safety, supporting our local economy, improving our education system and creating jobs in Palm Beach County.”

The seat is currently held by Rep. Lori Berman (D-Lantana), who has announced her intention to run next year for the seat of term-limited Palm Beach County Commissioner Paulette Burdick.

Casello, a Democrat, was elected to the City Commission in 2013 and reelected this year. He also serves as a board member of the Palm Beach County League of Cities, a member of the Palm Beach County Sober Home Task Force, a member of the South Central Regional Wastewater Treatment and Disposal Board and a board member of the Global Business Development Center.

In addition, Casello serves as a Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency board member, president of the Knollwood Homeowners Association and works with the Community Caring Center in Boynton Beach.

“My extensive public and private experience and my strong record of community involvement make me the best candidate running for House District 90,” he said. “Throughout my time as Boynton Beach City Commissioner, I have shown that I am a leader who listens to my constituents and gets things done for our community.”

A Worcester, Mass. native, Casello served as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Air Force, assigned to the 212th ANG Unit, responsible for the installation of radio transmission sites throughout the country.

In 1974, he was appointed to the Worcester Fire Department and promoted to lieutenant in 1984.

As a business owner and licensed electrical contractor for over 23 years, Casello operated Casello Electrical Services. He is married and has one daughter.
